I've sold my iPhone (1st gen) on Craigslist before to great effect ($225 last year at this time), so I know the benefits of Craigslist (local), but is between it and eBay, is it really the best way to get the most money ultimately? What do you think? I'm basically going to go with whatever the consensus is here and sell it that way. I personally don't have an eBay account but I have a friend who has one with alot of positive feedback so I can use that if necessary. Thanks.

Either place is flooded with iPhones as of right now. I sold mine locally on CL a couple days ago.

CL definitely better for many reasons. 1) Faster process. 2) Local and easy (no shipping) 3) instant cash, if you don't use paypal often, they will hold your money until they have proof the product has shipped... I would definitely use EB as a last resort.

Why don't you ask people in your school? my friend sold his iPhone 16GB for $450 to someone in his school, it doesnt have to be Ebay or CL, there is many other choices.

But don't you guys feel like there is an inherent competitive element in eBay that helps it reach a higher price than CraigsList sales?

Ask a bit higher than what you think you can get and people will send you their offers... However, DO NOT say $350 OBO because then people are NEVER going to offer you $350 for it...

That may be true, but there is also a higher chance of getting scammed. Personally, I'd rather take a few bucks less, and know that I'm not going to get screwed.

Last summer, I bought a 13" MBP for my daughter who went off to college. Got the free iPod Touch with it. Listed it on CL, and within 3 hours I had cash in hand.

Also, Ebay fees are almost upward of $50 when you use auction method. Thats trims the profit and then all those shipping hassles etc.

I'm assuming you all are selling your iPhones Jailbroken and Unlocked because why would someone on AT&T want to buy a used iPhone

i think this is the dumbest thing i've read... of course AT&T customers will buy used iPhone's. there's always a market for EVERYTHING out there, stuff even more bizarre than a used iPhone! yup believe it or not. just because you won't buy one, doesn't mean the next person won't as well.

I'm sorry, I'll remember to throw logic completely out the window next time I post a response.

I sold my 3G on eBay last year for $455 total. I sold my 3GS on Craigslist a few months ago for $400, I believe (I advertised it for more, but I forgot how much). I'd say they're about the same, but for iPhones, I'd go with eBay.

My 3GS is on os 4.0 beta 4 so when I sell it I'll ask the person if they want 4.0 or it jail broken. That will hopefully increase the price. I usually sell my iPhone to this guy I know he gets me at least $200 for it every time he probably gets 2X more but in fine with that:apple:

Of course I do not know how valuable your time is but why use the guy when you can get $400?
