On the mac mini there is only one audio out (the non-hdmi version) so I would like to force all sound out on one cable, both stereo and surround.

My amplifier is connected via a optical-to-coaxial cable and I get sound from dvd´s without any problem. But my amp only accepts ac3, dts or dd sound so I need something that works in standby and converts all other sounds to ac3

I have tried a couple of terminal hacks but none of them work.

There is a program for pc that I hear a guy had been using which worked in the background during normal usage of the pc and changed all pcm-sounds to ac3 without any problem...

Anyone have a similar idea for the mac?
