Hi guys,

I have a 2010 macbook Pro on version 10.9.5 .

I've been using my computer all day and haven't made an system changes, but for some reason my laptop suddenly no longer shows any of the system files on my hard drive. I noticed it when trying to open certain applications (iTunes, Facetime, Calendar, Photo Booth, NI Maschine) they either closed automatically after loading, don't open at all or come up with some sort of error messages saying something along the lines of the "file doesn't exist" or " Unknown error occured".

Obviously not all the files are affected as i can still go on google chrome and access the internet through my laptop. This is why I think its something wrong with the apple system as all of the apple applications that were already on the computer now don't work.

I then looked at my hard drive and found that all the folders in my :Macintosh HD/ had been wiped including the Applications/, Library/, Users/ and System/ folders. On futher inspection every folder on my computer has been wiped, the only files that still exist are files on my desktop. However, having tried to open an mp3 Finder has now crashed..

Despite all of this my Hard drive still says it has 230/240gb of space used, so my files haven't been deleted.

I'm really worried as I have potentially lost a lot of work, i'm considering taking it to someone to get checked but if i can sort this out sooner by myself that would be ideal.

Thanks
