Allocating more RAM to InDesign?

My InDesign is working painfully slow on my MBP, even though I have 16GB of RAM. Photoshop, on the other hand, works extremely fast, but I have allocated a lot of RAM to it. InDesign doesn't even have this option in its settings (so it seems).
Does anyone have any suggestions?
