I'm new to the virtualization concept. I have a MBA with 2GB RAM and wanted to get VMware Fusion with the 64bit version of Windows 7.

A lot of people recommend allocating 1GB RAM to the Mac and 1GB RAM to Fusion, but I was wondering if this a permanent allocation or if it can be changed easily from day to day.

If I allocated 1GB to Fusion does this mean that my Mac will have only 1GB to use even when I'm not running Fusion? Also, wouldn't 1GB RAM be too little for a 64bit Windows 7? What would you recommendation?
