Allow Edge or Safari audio to continue after screen lock?

In IOS (iPhone 16 Pro) is there any way to allow browser audio from (for example) a streaming site to continue to play after screen lock? I have seen several threads asking the question but they all kinda petered out without a conclusion. I assume this is NOT possible? If not possibe, I wonder why..... it would seem to be a desirable feature.
