The Alpine Loop has been out for >1 year now. What are your opinions on it, if you have used it for a “substantial” period of time?

I just purchased an Ultra with Alpine as I like the look but I’m wondering how it fares with workouts, showers, and wear and tear during every day use.

The Alpines second favorite type of band in terms of comfort and look, right after the braided loops. I don’t use both of them for workouts or showering because for workouts I prefer Sport Loops and for everything connected to water I like the SBs or Ocean bands.

I've not had it for a substantial period of time, just got it a couple months ago when the new watches released this year, but it's become my everyday wear band over my previously beloved milanese loop.

It has done well with everything I've thrown at it so far, but I don't shower with Apple Watch and with the cold and wet weather I've not gotten outside with it much either. I have taken other people's advice and thrown it in a pants pocket in the washing machine to clean it, and that seems to work okay, although it doesn't tend to stay in the pocket.

So far my only worry with the Alpine Loop is that it's easy to overtighten, which can cause irritation, and I'm concerned that could get worse in the summer months with more outdoor activities, sweat and exercise. When I'm not wearing the watch (while it's charging) I see the watch & band imprint on my wrist more prominently and for longer than I ever did using my milanese loop.

It is very much my new every day band. Despite having a number of bands for my S4, I only ever wore my Nike Sport Loop Hyper Grape(or raisin as it turned into...).

Loved the easy on/off, micro adjustability, comfort of that band.

Alpine Loop looks so good and fits so well with the Ultra aesthetic, and it is WAY more comfortable I thought. The adjustments are more than adequate for me for a proper fit.

Never have I or will I shower with it... showering with a cloth band feels a bit psychopathic to me, like showering with socks on. I'd maaaaaaaybe do it with a silicone/rubber band... MAYBE. But that is not how I roll. if the watch or bad needs cleaning, I'd do it separately than my body.

I've worn it biking but not workouts per se. It would be great, but it would soak up sweat for sure. I'd prolly switch it out if I were into that, but I'm sure tons of people use it for workouts.

congrats on your Ultra!
can't comment on your question as I only wear ocean bands though the alpine would be my 2nd choice. reason is that I shower with my watch on and ocean band has no issues getting wet/dry. when I wore sport loops, getting those dry after shower was just not that easy ...

I have worn the orange alpine loop since the launch day last year. My only complaint is that the orange color easily shows dirt so I rinse it every now and then. I wear my AWU overnight to track my sleep, I have showered wearing it many times, I have gone on extensive walks, runs, bike rides and I swim 4-5 days a week with it. I don’t mind the alpine loop getting wet, I feel like it dries up relatively quick. If you don’t like the “wet” feeling on your wrist, I’d encourage you to pick up a silicon band unless you already have some extra bands.

I love the colors this year. Love the purple and the olive or tan or whatever it is. They fit well and are more comfortable than I thought they would be.

That said I think they look cool when seeing the hook and loops but if you are looking at the watch from someone else perspective you don’t see any of that just a plain band depending on the orientation. You can either pull the hook to you or away from you depending on how you attach to the watch, but it either leaves someone else looking at the band with a boring look or the boring look is staring at you. If that makes any sense.

I have always liked the Nike sport bands. Have an olive one from previous years as well as the light gray one. I love this year’s green with blue specs. It is my current favorite band.

I got my release-day Ultra with a Starlight Alpine loop. Loved it, wore it 23 1/2+ hours per day. Retired it a month or so ago as it was wearing out — the loop where I hooked it was starting to come apart at the seam, and some threads were poking up here and there.

Money is tight right now, so I’m back to the sport band that my S4 came with.

When I have money, I’m getting an Ocean.

My indigo alpine loop band is my daily wear band. So far, I can’t see any wear on it. It’s super comfortable too. I like it a lot. If I’m diving or swimming, I use my ocean band. That’s pretty comfortable too with no signs of wear, but I don’t love that it makes a pattern in my skin from the ridges (and it’s not too tight on my wrist).

Out of curiosity, do you have a picture of your indigo alpine loop as it looks in everyday wear? I've only seen Apple's promo photos, and those don't often reflect colors as they truly appear in actual lighting situations.

Here‘s a pic of mine, you don’t see a whole lot of the band though😅

I have the blue and indigo Alpine Loop. Wasn't interested last year as didn't like the colours. Love the two I have now. Had the Olive too but wasn't as keen in the flesh.

As @ebika shows in their photo, get the size that allows you to fasten it away from the centre of the bottom of your wrist. Stops the chance of rubbing on laptops/MacBooks or scratching the hook/clasp. Also gives you more length when removing so's to keep the hook from touching and marking the watch itself.

Yeah, this. When these were released first, I thought they looked kinda weird in pictures. On the wrist it‘s a very different experience and the quintessential „Ultra Look“ IMO. And indeed very light and very comfortable while ultra-secure. (Ocean band was the exact opposite for me: looked cool in pictures but felt oversized and clumsy on the wrist.)

While the „rubbing“ point stands, aesthetically the clasp just looks best when it is centered on the bottom of the wrist. IMHO, of course.

But hard as hell to take off I bet.

I do have much less links from the bottom of the watch when using the steel Link Bracelet to get the clasp in the centre.

I like the Ocean band the most because its the easiest to clean and has the most give in wearability - and in my opinion is the most comfortable. The Alpine loop is great, but it seems to get dirty easily and the clanging of the clip when you take it off has a very high potential to hit the screen which always worries me when i take it off. YMMV

I love the look and function of the alpine, but it is a little bulky for my wrist. The indigo especially is a real looker.

Sport loop gang 4 life.

Very happy with mine. I received the Olive one with my Ultra 2. Looking forward to getting another.
I've not warn it for working out (I'll use one of the sport bands or solo loops for that) or in the shower, but otherwise I've had no issues to report and I'm pleased with the fit and comfort.

Thanks all. So far I’m loving mine. I’ve worn it for working out and in the shower and no issues. I do prefer the sport band for workouts but the Alpine loop seems totally up to the task.

Loving it.
