Hello.

Having a tv-less setup, but 2 nice displays, I have recently gotten a 2021 apple TV 4k 2nd gen, and playback wise it all seems fine.

I'm experiencing some weird behaviour though; I have all my appliances (including the apple TV itself) plugged into a power strip that's connected to a PSU to counteract the somewhat frequent power outages.
Before going to sleep I switch the PSU and the power strip off and turn them on once again when I start using my appliances.

I have no problems with the rest of my things, but the apple TV turns on automatically as soon as the general power is switched on (my mac for example doesn't), and as you can imagine it can be pretty inconvenient as each time I turn the power on I have to grab the remote and switch the apple TV off (if I don't intend using it).
I'd like the apple tv to behave normally, specifially being turned on with the remote or the iphone only.

Do you have any idea on how to solve this?
I have never come in contact with a gadget that automaticaly turns on when the power strip is switched on.

Thank you.

Many of the streaming boxes and sticks power-on automatically when they go from receiving no power to receiving power. My Apple TV 3rd Gen, Apple TV 4k and Apple TV HD all power up automatically.

I have my equipment connected to a power bar with an individual power switch for each connected component.

Oh damn.
Thanks for the useful info, although I can't see why Apple coundn't include a setting to not turn on automatically...

They probably don’t see the point of doing that since once the power is on the device is on. Even when it’s “off” it’s not really off unless the power is cut. It’s just sleeping otherwise. It’s still working in that state downloading app updates, screensavers, and updating your Up Next. Every streaming device I know of is the same and just about every piece of hardware  makes is an Always On device unless you cut the power/shut it down.

Personally I’d never turn the power on and off like that for electronics u less I was going to be gone for a month. Use their own power buttons and leave the power bar turned on.

Same. I also think cutting the power like this probably isn’t good to be doing on a regular basis. You’re messing with how tvOS manages resources.

just let it sit for a few minutes, It will go to sleep by itself.

or put a piece of black electrical tape over the white LED on the front, and you'll never know it's on.

To the others saying "just leave it on"
the OP said they do this because of "somewhat frequent power outages." It's possible they live somewhere where the grid isn't as reliable, and it's better to have the aTV disconnected from the mains power in case of a brown or black out,

Yes.
That's why I have the power strip connected to a UPS.
Very unreliable power grid here

When you say unreliable…. Are we talking off and on for a minute once a month or hours at a time and often?

A few times per week.
The fact I only have a 3000watts supply in my house makes things worse.
Just a few appliances opened at the same time and there's a blackout
