A few years ago my dad bought a Dell with these MASSIVE altec lansing THX speakers. trouble is, he's fed up with them now so i offered to take them off his hands. my ibook though cannot handle all of those speakers!! is there anything I can buy to convert the 5.1 into a headphone jack that my iBook or ipod can handle??

It uses optical audio, right?

I never really understood 5.1 for computers. The center speakers are suppose to be right in front of you (optimal at eye level), where their is usually no room, and then you have to have two rear speakers behind you, which would bring furniture into question. So I'm sure that a majority of 5.1 setups have speakers in odd locations that really mess with the sound.
