If you have a GSM cell phone anywhere near them (4-5 feet), they'll buzz like a banshee, as will any speaker. GSM radio frequencies wreak havoc on virtually all speakers, except those that have special shielding like the ones built using the "works with iPhone" logo. AT&T phones use GSM & I believe T-Mobile as well. Sprint/Nextel use CDMA, which doesn't interfere nearly as much.
Mine are silent when there's no output from my Mac. Are all your wires plugged in fully? Maybe try jiggling them.
I leave my cell on my desk right next to my Mac and a little over a foot from the right satellite and get no noises from it (but I do if I point the phone right at the speaker) and my subwoofer is under the desk on the left.

I already checked that, but it can't be the cables.. I unplugged everything but the subwoofer.. to see if it really comes from the sub or from the cables or the speakers.. and the subwoofer was still buzzing (plugged in, but turned off.. without any speakers or control panel)
so I guess I'll be sending them back to get my money back and stick with my old Cambridge Soundworks system..
