About every week there is a thread opened up that mentions "best $200 speakers" or "best 2.1 speakers" "speakers that go with my mac"

And to every post i say:Altec Lansing FX6021's

I would like to know if anyone has had any complaints about these wonderful speakers...I have two sets of them and i love both of them they are amazing and serve all of my needs...

I have em and love em. Best computer speakers I've ever used/heard.

blow them away, sound-wise...

do you have any specific questions?

I would say they lose some cool, craziness factor...but they are amazing...

Well actually by looking at pictures the altecs match the new mac aluminum look much more than the soundsticks. I sorta bought too quickly because I already ordered the soundsticks from Amazon, but now I saw dell is selling the altecs for only 150.

How is the subwoofer compared to the soundsticks. Are the speakers a lot more powerful in general? And what exactly is better? Is it more treble, midrange, etc.

Edit: Reading around, some reviews say while the Altec satellites are magnificent, the subwoofer is only mediocre. Just wondering your opinion on that.

But yea.. my big question is...

How does the Altec sub compare to the soundsticks sub?

I can live with slightly less satellite power with the soundsticks if the sub is better...

This is what iLounge says...
We tested the Soundsticks against each of the aforementioned speaker systems, and were a bit surprised by the results. On an audio level, they held up quite well against the more expensive FX6021 system, delivering an unchangeable default level of treble that was superior to the most aggressive setting on Altec’s system, and coming pretty close on bass as well. The FX6021’s larger 6.5”, 50-Watt subwoofer delivers a bit more thump at normal listening levels than Harman’s 6”, 20-Watt sub, but the difference is more apparent at high volumes. At comparable volumes, the Soundsticks also put out a bit less base-level noise than the Altecs, though neither is dead silent. In sum, those looking for a “theater” experience from speakers may prefer the bass and volume potential of the FX6021s, say nothing of the remote control and greater bass/treble tuning capabilities, but those listening at typical volumes and even a bit above will find a lot to like in the Soundsticks, especially for the lower price.

Well, even with the special dell deal the altecs will still be like $40 more, and I *might* have to pay to ship the soundsticks back to them...

The hyperlink comes up as a 404 error, bud.

About the speakers themselves, they're some of the best you can buy in the price-range. The unique amplifier signal filtering to the multi-driver array results in amazing sound reproduction rivaling low-end studio monitors.

Peace

Amazon had the Altec Lansing's (FX6021's) on sale, two weeks, for only $99; that was a rare deal.

I got a set of 6021's to match my 30" ACD, and they do look fantastic. The only drawback, and I think this is nearly universal with most 2.1 setups, is the sometime lack of a satisfying midrange. But as far as 2.1 setups go, the 6021's are supposedly one of the best this side of Bang & Olufsen.

Bass however I have in abundance, which is wasted on me since I don't listen to bass-heavy music.
