Alternate Upgrade at Apple Store?

I tried searching but couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know if they can use a different numbers upgrade for my number? My brother and I are on the same plan, and his upgrade is available. I'd like to use it to upgrade mine in the apple store on the 14th, but don't want to wait in line just to find out they can't.
