I'm really considering getting a MacPro (2.66ghz, 160gb, 1gb, one or two superdrives (maybe one and buy the second elsewhere), bluetooth, x1900, OS X v10.4 Tiger(not sure yet)). I figure I can get RAM and harddrives elsewhere...that's why I'm going low on that part of the system. Now, the big issue is the display. I've read there are comparable displays in the 20" market, does the same hold true for the 23" market? I've also read the Dell 2407WFP is a very nice offering and it's price is attractive, as well. Basically, I'd like some suggestions for a 23"+ widescreen display under the $900 the 23" ACD costs. The machine will be used for image editing (photography major) and, if, I decide to get rid of my current machine, everything else (web browsing, chatting, word processing, etc.). Thanks in advance!

Here's a comparison of the 24" Dell and 23" ACD. Read the entire first post and the Wiki article to fully understand the difference.

I'd tell you to wait until MWSF when there are new Mac Pro's, Leopard and new Cinema Displays.:) :D

January, right? That seems so far away! Hopefully the prices don't climb too much.

I would actually predict them to stay the excact same. I'm very sure there will be new Mac Pro's in January, 75% there will be Leopard, and 60% there will be new ACD's with upgraded res. to match Leopards res. independence.;)

This kinda worries me. I'm looking to get the 23" ACD soon (will wait till after MWSF though) but with higher res, how will the X1900XT cope with new games in boot camp?

I'm guessing if they upgrade the Mac Pros they'll up the 'gamer' graphics card option to an R600, which should be out by then.

yeah, just noticed the Peripherals forum. so if a mod would move this for me, that'd save me further embarassment.
