I ran DRII on a recently formatted drive in hopes of finding some lost pics. Alas I found 5 of 300, lol.

The problem with DRII is that it scans for all files and takes hours. I'm looking for a app that will find just photos.
I've seen an app called PhotoRescue, but I think that's just for Flash cards and stuff.
 
Unfortunately I believe it is the "looking" part that takes time, not the "for all files" part.

You still have go through the entire disk to find everything that can possibly be recovered. Looking for one type or 424 types of files won't make much difference, the computer is that much faster than the drives connected to it.

PhotoRec can be useful for recovering stuff, but it is s-l-o-w.
 
I had nearly the same issu two days ago. Accidentally emptied my trash. DR2 "rescued" 30MB out of errrrrm 12GB....
