The iOS podcasts app is obnoxious. Regardless of settings, I can never get it to do what I want it to do. I just want podcasts/syncing to behave like they did in the good old days (for me) of listening to podcasts on my 5th Gen iPod, because I like to keep all the episodes of certain podcasts on my Mac at all times and completely control syncing between my Mac and mobile device.

These days, I use iTunes to sync specific podcasts to the iOS podcasts app, and then I never know what's going to happen. Sometimes it works just like I want it to. Sometimes it decides to unsubscribe from a podcast I've listened to for 8 years and pretend that none of the previously synced episodes exist on my phone. And this sucks in the middle of a long road trip.

I don't want an iOS podcast streaming solution, because I also listen on my Mac, and I want to store the files on my computer. And I want something that will keep track of what I've listened to and sync listening progress properly between iOS and iTunes.

So, is there a better alternative to the Podcasts app that can do this? OR, how do I get the Podcasts app to act like my podcasts used to (i.e. completely cut off its data)? I don't want it to do anything by itself. Just have the podcasts I synced from iTunes and stop messing my s**t up.

Thanks in advance for your help!
