I don't want to pay $20 for texting I only send about 100 a month and my only options with att are $20 or keep text blocking (current feature) why att did they get rid of the cheapper plans aka $5.00 for 250 messages I may want to cancel service and pay the ETF cause I don't like the offerings and I am getting broke thanks to ATT. LOL

didn't read contract huh?

you're almost out of luck there buddy, but ...

you can go for no text plan &
port your number to google voice - their texts are free
(only inconvenience there is that you'd have to sync all your contacts with google & use google voice app (free) to make calls & send txt messages)

unless ... you jailbreak, then you can use "sms gv extention" & "phone gv extention"

finally, you could cancel & go w/ h2o - new wireless co that actually uses att's network, so no need to unlock the phone

you can also try

WHATAPP

if you and your friend have WHATSAPP ... FREE SMS.. even international

WHATAPPS is 99cents

You can email people text messages & and their replies will go into your email inbox.

You just need your friends to send a text message to your email account to get their 'texting email address' (ex. 4305551234@texting.sprint.com).

+1 on this. Google voice, Bite SMS, GV Extension works great.
