I'm quite new to the mac world, I checked the stickied recommendations, but is there a simple video editor for .avi? iMovie 8 that obviously came with my macbook seems to be what I need, but it only edits camera movies, isight stuff, or .mov apparently. Is there something that is very simple (the equivalent of Windows DivX Pocket encoder perhaps) that can allow me to edit and clip videos etc...(sorry if this is a common question)

If you have QuickTime Pro you can open the .avi and save it as a .mov, which can then be used in iMovie.

There's Avidemux, but it's not native to Mac (Linux originally)

Also - check out the Divx website, they might have some stuff.
