Hey y'all,

Basically I am looking at buying a Macbook Pro 13 and would love to be able to hook it up to a big screen when I am not at school. So, I have seen the ACD and it looks stunning, but the price is too much. Are there any cheaper alternatives that look almost as good? I am not too fussed about resolution or ports etc, but an HDMI input would be a bonus!

Thanks,
Anthony

Less than £350, full 1080p screen, input that is compatible with MBP 13" 2010 and an HDMI port (not essential but very welcome)

I am seriously considering buying a Dell now, they do look good, but I want to see if anyone else has any recommendations :D

If you want an aesthetic clone of ACD get the Cinemaview 24". 1920x1080 and it connects using Mini Displayport for $399US.

Not IPS or LED Backlit, uses 8th gen 8bit S-MVA panel. I'm a graphic designer and while it's not quite as good as the ACD, it does perfectly fine as a temporary screen until Apple decides to refresh their ACD lineup.

Poor experiences in the past with Dell turned me off from them.

Just in case you need another recommendation: I vote Dell. The U2311H that the previous poster mentioned is also what I was going to suggest, although it's 23". They also make ones with built-in webcames like the Cinema Displays, although I'm not sure if any of them have IPS panels.

The maximum resolution on your machine is 1920 x 1200. Get at least a 24" monitor that does that resolution. Any smaller, and the text will be uncomfortably small to read.

For a 24" sRGB (non-wide gamut) S-IPS panel, maybe consider the HP ZR24w. It's got a matte screen, too, unlike Apple's horrible new mirror-like glass screen 24" Cinema Display. Oh, the ZR24w is half the price of the ACD.
