Alternatives to Apple's $99 Dual-Link DVI Adapter? HELP

I have two notebooks with mini display port and I have this 30" LCD screen.

Apple says I need their $99 dual link DVI adapter. Legit or is there something cheaper?

If your display has a DisplayPort connector then you can get a mini-DP -> DisplayPort cable but otherwise you're stuck with the Dual Link DVI adapter.

Ok. the product link I posted has terrible reviews! Hoping the $99 isn't for nothing. best I can do is buy it at the store, take it home and hope I get good results before the 14 day return police bottoms out.
