Alternatives to Finder / Mac desktop/ like Raskin

First, anyone who uses Raskin, could you comment on its pros and cons.

Otherwise, anyone know of any other alternatives to file management that uses a desktop metaphor?

PS...I'm using 10.6. I doubt I'll ever upgrade to 10.7, but will check out 10.8 when it comes out.
