Hey guys, my mbp charger is starting to show signs of failure, the cable is turning yellow at the ends and looks like it will start to break and fray in a couple months. I saw a Hugh Jeffery video where he heat shrunk it, but is there an alternative thats better quality? These cheap rubber cables are frustrating as this charger has been for desk use and barely moved. Would like to avoid giving apple $40 bucks and spend that money on a good cable.

Anker's USB C cable only goes up to 60W, price isnt an issue, just need something with better build quality.

My suggestion is, whatever you buy, make sure it's got a braided outer casing, like the image below. That's one I bought a while ago, it's a Chinese brand, only 2.0 data but it's 100W PD so it works brilliantly as a dedicated charge cable.

When I looked for a braided charge cable that was 100W and IF-certified, I did not have much luck. Anker has a 100W cable that is IF-certified. However, it is not braid. It is more durable than the OEM though and does support USB 3.2 gen 2.

Will definitely check that out. Thanks!

This is the one I got - it is a thick and robust cable, and fits more snugly than the OEM Apple cable.
(I assume there is a longer version but I wanted 3 feet)

There are several smaller makers on Amazon who have braided cables they advertise as being 100W and also IF-Certified. The problem was I could not find these maker's in the USB IF database, and when contacted to ask what their name was in the IF database (as the manufacturing name can sometimes be different from the end product name), none of these makers even responded. That made me very uncomfortable having read individual accounts of problems with ports after using charge cables of questionable quality.

Anker cables are IF-Certified. Cable Matters are routinely IF-Certified (they do make both a 3 and 6 foot 100W charge cable) and I believe Amazon and Belkin cables are also generally IF-Certified as well.

I have the USB to lightning anker cable for a couple years and still runs great. I just bought the 24 carrot gold USB C cable from anker since I had a 25% off coupon and needed USB C to plug into my mac. But I will see if there is a longer version, 6ft cable will work fine for me.
