Alternatives to MacPar?

Hi,

I'm finding that when I'm using MacPar to extract/reconstruct file(s), it renders my Mac Pro useless for a few minutes in the initial stages yet when I check my consumption levels, the CPU usage is less than 15%. Is this a Universal Binary application or no?

I like Macpar, but you're right, it does slow the machine down when it's running.

It is a Universal app (Get Info on the icon).
