So, i have a hate/hate relationship with TimeMachine. It works for maybe 3-6 months then it seems to always become corrupt and I have to start over. I know there are others that will say they haven't had any issues but unfortunately that is not my experience. I do backup to a synology but thats how want to keep it because i don't want to have to manually attach my mac to external drives for it to be backed up. I'm looking for a good replacement. Doing some research it seems like two of the most popular replacements are "Carbon Copy Cloner" & SuperDuper. Some of there requirements that i want it to support are:
1. Encryption
2. Compression
3. utmost reliability.
4. Backup to a SMB drive.
5. Incremental Backups
6. Versioning.
It would be nice if you could do an image type restore in a bootable environment but i'm not sure if any of them do that. Hopefully whatever is recommended also will do most if not everything you can do with time machine.
Out of the two which would you recommend (or any others)? Do both of them support the features i'm wanting it to support?
