Amid the coronavirus outbreak that has many people in the United States and other countries sheltering inside their homes to avoid spreading the infection, some game developers have opted to make their games available to play for free.

Alto's Odyssey and Alto's Adventure, two popular endless runner-style games are available at no cost at the current time on iOS and macOS as the developer has dropped the price due to the coronavirus. Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Origins, two popular strategy games for iOS, can also be downloaded for free.

We're compiling a list of paid games that have gone free below, and we'll add to it if we find additional titles:If you're at home because of the coronavirus, this is also potentially a good time to try Apple Arcade if you haven't already used your free trial, though it's also a worthwhile way to spend $4.99 for a month of gaming as there are a wide range of great titles available.

We've listed some favorites below, though there are quite a few different games that will suit all tastes.
Know of other games that are free to download at the current time? Let us know in the comments and we'll add them to the list.

Surprising how many of these games require iOS 13 and won't work with iOS 12. I suppose they are forced to require iOS 14 because of memory requirements only available on recent iOS devices.

Solid move. Kingdom rush is one of the games that still is incredibly fun despite the IAP’s. Will definitely go buy a hero or two in game to support the devs after this.

What’s the mechanic for controlling jumps in the Alto’s games? I can’t seem to get over chasms. Tapping at the end of the ramp causes the jump to be small and I can’t charge my jump going into ramp because as soon as I tap I jump. Tapping in the middle of the ramp doesn’t seem to work for me either... is the height of my jump based on the angle of the ground at the moment I tap?

The original game of Alto's, you gain speed, by making backflips the more you do the more speed you gain. Try to do them as soon and as many as you can. You will fail a lot of the times, but you will learn the speed each character does the backflip.

If anyone's looking for another free game to pass the quaran-time, and you like platformers, Lava Llama may keep you busy for a while:

(Disclaimer: I made it! No ads, no in-app purchases.)

The generosity of these devs is wonderful. I never got around to playing Monument Valley 2.
