There's been a lot of debate about the iMac screens, and I don't want to get into the inferior tn panel iMac 20. But is the new 24 inch iMac essentiall ythe same screen as the previous version, if you take the glossy screen part out of the equation.

Cheers

No one knows for definate until one is taken apart.

Does anyone know for definate what the previous 24" was?

C'mon folk! Who's got some big, hairy, testicles and is prepared to open up their lovely new iMac 24 to see what's inside for the cause?!! :)

I don't think anybody knows the specific manufacturer / part number of the panel yet... however, it's clearly NOT a TN panel in the 24" version.

Based upon reports of it having around 178 degree viewing angles without much shifting of colors, you can assume it's some variant of PVA, S-PVA or MVA. Modern panels of that type are usually pretty good. The previous iMac also used that type of panel.

S-IPS panels are arguably better - but, to my knowledge the only 24" S-IPS panel made is used in the high end (and expensive) NEC 2490 monitor.

What is "inferior" about them?. Is it something I am missing??. I haven't heard many other people complain, unless they're just nitpicking. What is the diff between TN and the other TFT types; explain please.

The viewing angle of the current 20 inch panel is smaller than the previous generation of 20 inch panels due to the new iMac panels being lower grade tn panels

is that why new ones are cheaper?
well. and i hate glossy.

So the fact that the viewing angle is JUST 18 degrees less, is a MAJOR problem?!.

I don't know about you, but I don't tend to sit BEHIND my computer screen, when using my Mac. Can't see that this is particularly "inferior", just slightly less viewable from the side.
