Alum Macbook thinks it has a dvd in its drive

I have a new uni alum. Macbook and today when i woke it up I heard a strange noise. After rebooting I realized its the dvd drive. When I click the eject button it makes the sound it makes when i eject a disk, and I can here the dvd drive spinning without a disk in it. How did this happen, how do I fix it?
