I recently purchased a 20 inch cinema display aluminum without a power adapter. I tested the monitor prior to purchase with the stores adapter but need to buy one once i went home.

I found a 65 watt cinema display adapter on ebay but it did not come with an ac cord. I used one that was around my house and the box did not power on.

Does the apple cinema display power adapter require a special ac adapter?

No it doesn't. I have exactly what you have and also bought it on eBay. I'm using an AC cord from an old Dell and it works fine. It could be that the cord is bad.

The cord I am using is from a dell monitor as well and works fine on the dell. It must be the box i purchased on ebay. Bummer. Is there a cheaper place than paying $80 anywhere?

Nevermind! Turns out the monitor will not power on unless there is a signal from a mac. I plugged in my macbook and all is fine.
