Has anyone modded the backlit keyboard to light up a different color? I figure if you just pop for the keys off and then place a thin colored layer of film over the LEDs it would light up as a different color. Has anyone done this yet or is my idea just completely retarded lol

You could also tap a microcontroller in a usb port and replace the leds with 3-colour controllable ones. You could then write stuff to modify the intensity and colour of the leds. Put meh, why ?

I don't have leds on mine but they seem to be a blue-ish tint, a film won't let you do much with that as the only frequency the light is emitting is probably just that blue. So, by putting say a red film on top, you'll only fade the light, not make it red.

From what I've seen, they're pretty white in person. As to the OP, the keyboard is held on by 50 or so screws from what I remember on ifixit, so that'd be quite a bit of work to setup the film, as well as possibly increasing heat retention by reducing airflow (maybe?).

It is easy, thought tedious, to disassemble the macbook and get access to the keyboard. It consists of several layers, you will need to put a color gel over the 5 or so leds. Look at the ifixit guide to see how to get to the leds in the keyboard.

How about a mod to add led light to the lower MacBook now that would be cool... And I doubt that it would be hard for a good modder, almost everything should be there except the lights themselves and you could probably hack the drivers to turn on with the F4,5 (or w.e) keys... I would love an illuminated keyboard. Actually I'm sending my MacBook back to apple to get rapaired and imma c if they let me upgrade... Hopefully ;)

Adding LEDs to MacBook

Anyone tried modding their 2.0 mb unibody to ad backlit keyboard.

Ive moved from an old mbp and really miss the backlight.

I have an old keyboard from replacment job on my old mbp and the LEDs are on a detachable contact sheet thats really thin and I rekon should fit!

Also there is a ambient light sensor on the mb unibody

I'm not an experienced modder but have just managed a keyboard and HD replacment on my old mbp, and kinda got a taste taking things apart!

So anyone think this is possible?

Anyone got pics of the keyboard setup in the new macbooks?

The MacBook Pro keyboard will not be compatible with the new AlBooks because of the different mountings for the board itself.

As for fiddling around with the chicklet keyboards on the AlBooks... my N key is broken on my BlackBook and it is pretty fugging annoying. Imagine in you damaged a really common key like A or E? Typing would be a nightmare!
