Funny situation. The next day after Apple Keynote my Apple Watch 3 SS literally died. The touch screen doesn’t response and rebooting or updating hasn’t helped.

So I’m back in the market wondering which AW should I get. My budget is up to 450 USD so I’m choosing between base 6 model and SE with LTE.
I don’t care much about ECG or Blood Oxygen as I don’t heave any health issues. The only thing I miss in SE is an always on display. However SE with LTE is still cheaper than basic 6 model.

So I wonder - those of you guys having AW5 with LTE - what do you find more essential: always on display or having cellular connectivity? I’d love to have them both, however I can’t justify spending so much money on a device that can be broken in next 2 years - like my current aw3.

I'll begin with saying the answer really depends on your preferences / wishes. What applies to other people doesn't necessarily apply to you.

I'd suggest you read through the myriad GPS vs. Cellular threads to see others views on the utility of cellular.

For me, LTE >> AOD.

As I posted in another thread:

Not sure I've ever taken a call while out for a run (I set DND on), but the cellular capability is LOTS more than phone calls IMHO.

For me it's:
  • ability to stream music or podcasts over LTE
  • allows using Siri to note a reminder of something I think of while out; to-do or grocery list or whatever
  • ability to bring up a map when running an unfamiliar route and I'm unsure which way to go at an intersection
  • ability to text someone if I'm going to be a few minutes late
  • and most importantly, it makes my wife happy that I can get help if something happens on a long run
