Hey guys

I have just updated my 14 pro max to 16.2 and now the always on display just turns itself off after 3 minutes. And even faster if I toggle the “don’t show wallpaper” - Never used to do that and I am wondering if any of u are having the same issue ? I know it is meant to go off if the Apple Watch is nowhere close but it never used to turn itself off.

Same here. AOD just doesn't activate anymore when it's enabled. With or without wallpapers or notifications.

I have this same issue OP.

Can’t figure out what the problem is except a bug in 16.2…. When is 16.2.1 coming? Lol

This is happening to my 14p phone too. I'm not using low power mode. The AOD just turns off after a few minutes.

Update: I suspect this is a bug if you updated the phone while not charging. I updated unplugged. After fully charging the phone, the AOD seems to be working as intended.

So this happens to my on my iPhone 14 pro max and iPhone 14 pro
My pro max is on 16.2 and my Pro has yet to be updated. The AOD turns off after some time and the screen goes black so not sure if this is a bug or working as designed.

My 14PM started doing this, too after updating to 16.2. I’ve just toggled low power mode on, and then off again to see if that fixes it.

My AOD stays on a few minutes then goes black.

This is happening to mine and also my wife’s iPhone 14 pro max. After the update AOD stopped working. Normal power mode, no focus enable, no screen time. Has anyone tried reset all setting?

Same thing here...Now that the stutters are almost fixed it is this , will we be able to properly use our 14Pro one day?

I notice the same with my 14PM since 16.2 - I suppose it has also something to do with the remaining charge as it doesn't seem to happen when the phone is charged above 50-60% (didn't check that in detail yet).

Mine is charged 100% so is my wife's, they both turn off the display after a few min. AOD is just not working anymore. iPhone 14 Pro Max. Maybe we should "reset all settings"?

Did you already try to disable/enable AOD and/or rebooting the devices?

I had this as well yesterday after updating. I toggled AOD off and on in settings and its not happened since... Will update if the bug returns.

Yes first thing I did. Turn AOD off, then back on and rebooted and not fixed. I think I'll turn off AOD, then do a shut down. Turn the phone back on, and then enable AOD and see what happens.

Update: That last step fixed.

I use the countdown timer on my AOD for my rest periods at work. It’s great for me to wake from my sleep and glance at the phone to see how much rest I have left.

However, since upgrading to iOS16.2 this doesn’t work. The display turns off after a couple of minutes.

Low power mode off etc etc.

Re-boot didn’t fix.

The problem is sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Certainly broken since 16.2

So far, since this morning, AOD is working fine. Hmmm. Good, but I’ll keep monitoring.

So I checked this and clearly none of these is what caused it for me. I'm just glad its fixed doing what I did earlier.

Always-On display goes dark when you don't need it
To save battery life, the display is completely dark when:
Your iPhone is lying face down
Your iPhone is in your pocket or bag
Sleep Focus is on
Low Power Mode is on
Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay
You're using Continuity Camera
You haven't used your iPhone for a while (your iPhone learns your activity patterns and turns the display off and on accordingly, including if you set up an alarm or sleep schedule)
Your iPhone detects that you moved away from it with a paired Apple Watch (Always-On display will turn on when your Apple Watch is close to your iPhone again)

NONE of those conditions existed in my case.
