I've been playing around with an idea for some time. I'm not sure if it's good or can even work but it goes like this.

Have always-on app/speakers in the house, hopefully with voice detection. Since my wife and are the only ones around it would be easy to just speak and should could hear me when's she's cooking in the kitchen. I don't want to have to get up (I'm lazy), and ask her something, or resort to yelling. Also if I have to load apps and phone her etc then it's too complicated.

I was thinking something like Mumble with maybe and iPad in the lounge and one in the kitchen.

Would that work? Is there a better way? Is this a dumb fantasy??
