Is there a way of always showing the boot selection screen? I know you can hold down the option key but I am setting up a system for my parents and since timing is quite important when holding down the key I am pretty sure they would get frustrated. I still want them to be able to chose whether they want to boot into OSX or Windows. Ideally with a timeout or something.

I don't believe there is any way of "automatically invoking" the Startup Manager screen at boot time.

It MUST be "manually invoked" by holding down the option key.

Just tell your parents that if they want to "switch boot" at startup, they should:
1. Press the start button
2. Immediately hold down the option key and KEEP HOLDING IT DOWN (shouting intentional).
That should do it.

The other alternative is to use the Startup Disk preference pane.
