am I able to use a 17" Imac as a second screen for my 24"?

I just bought a 24" Imac and have my 17" at home from 8 years ago.. Is there a way to use the 17" Imac solely at a second monitor for the 24"Imac?...

I would love to have the screen space of the second monitor, but wasnt sure if you can use this as one?..

If its been asked recently, just direct me to the correct thread.

Alternatively, you could use something like Synergy to share a mouse and keyboard between systems. That's what I do, running Adium and Twiterriffic on my iBook.
