Am I able to use unregistered Apple Care from my 3G for the iPhone 4?

I really thought I'd registered my Apple Care the day I got my iPhone 3G (December 26th, 2008)...but today discovered that I didn't. :eek:

I have an iPhone 4 on pre-order and want to know if I'm going to have to purchase a new Apple Care plan, or if I can finally register the one sitting next to me.
