Basically I'll be spending 2 weeks in Italy, much of which will comprise of me reading books and tanning.

Not considering possible issues from overheating, should I worry about prolonged exposure to sun on the screen?

I really don't think the watch will have any problems.

My fiancée and I wore our AW's on a week long Caribbean cruise we took back in March. We experienced no issues with our watches during that time. Like the others have said, I would be more concerned about prolonged sun exposure to your skin. Your AW will be just fine.

I'd be more concerned about getting a watch tan.

An AW tan is real :D

You are more concerned about your device than your health. Amazing.

Don't understand these responses. I'm sure the op is going to use protection. This isn't Reddit. He's asking a question about an apple product in a Apple centered forum.

Should he have asked 'what kind of sun screen do I need and is there one available for my watch'?

To op. You'll get a watch tan. But that's just to remind you that you forgot your watch.

I drive a convertible, so my AWS gets a lot of sun in the warm seasons. No issues with the watch, but a nice "white spot" on my wrist :)

Exposing any technology to prolonged heat is questionable.

Consider placing the AW on the inside of the wrist with less direct exposure to the sun.

Viewing the screen will be difficult, although the reminders would work well.

I guess people are jumping at the first sentence in the OP, which involves the OP spending two weeks in Italy tanning. A tan is actually skin damage, and there's no such thing as a safe tan.

I don't think the op needs everyone telling him to worry about his skin. He can do that himself. So unless you have any info related to the topic, don't bother posting. He asked a question about the watch.

My Watch has been fine in the sun, of course I wouldn't wear it while tanning though. I don't need an Apple Watch tanline. :p

My watch has survived hiking in Arizona in 115f+ heat all the way down to being caked in snow <23f (that's 46c down to -5c for the rest of us). Battery life seems to suffer a bit at the extremes but all is well afterwards. Don't worry, op.

Thank you Mr. Hall monitor.

Yes. But it's _attractive_ skin damage.

Life isn't safe. Enjoy your (tanned) life while you have it!

As for the Watch... I've had mine since the beginning and I've worn in through MANY days in the sun and many in the snow. Still works perfectly.

Not so attractive when they hit 40 and their face looks like a used wallet

Put it this way, how many threads are there on this site about people from Italy who are complaining their Watch got a tan?
