I have a 4 day old iphone and i love it, on the back of it where the black plastic bottom meets the metal back on one side it isn't completely flush, i can put a piece of paper in the gap, am i being too fussy or should it sit completely flush, it's only on the right side.

It should be perfectly flush…

A pain I know, but if the shop you got it from is nearby get it looked at and returned.
In future if you run into a problem they could —*not saying they will —*but could turn round and say you tried to open the case…

Take it back while you still can. Most of them are not perfect, but it shouldn't be that bad. Great place for water to get in...

Take it back.... If you smash you phone you should have a good story to go with it. Not "it came that way"...
