iPhone 17 Pro Am i crazy? Adaptive audio kicking in via the speakers of iPhone 17 Pro

I just realized while washing my hands that when my sink was turned on high the audio from my 17 Pro got louder and then as soon as I turned the faucet off the volume went down. I did this multiple times and it behaved the same way. What is going on? I can only find info on adaptive audio being a feature on AirPods Pro (which I do own but they are not even currently connected).

Maybe it's related to the "reduce loud sounds" in sound settings? I don't use it and haven't observed that behavior on the phone speaker.

Just checked and i have that turned off!
