I have a feeling the next iPhone that will be announced will be called "the new iPhone" like with the new iPad. And you know how with iOS 5 you could double click the home button and get quick access to the camera. And with iOS 5.1 it's now always there. Do you think that's a little bit of a sign that the next iPhone may have no home button because there's no need for it in the lock screen anymore?

For the record, "the new iPad" isn't called that, it's called iPad or the new "iPad". I don't share your feelings on the name of the next iPhone.

I think the iPhone (as the iPad) will start to adopt the Mac naming nomenclature. (i.e., mid 2010 MBP).

If the iPhone and iPad ever get new sizes, it will be still carry over (i.e., 4" 2012 iPhone).

The only reason I can see Apple not doing this with the iPhone is the different variants required with global carriers.

I just want the next iPhone to exceed my expectations.

What Apple decide to name it is unimportant to me.

And No your not crazy.

The fever pitch is gonna be massive as the year moves on.

Rumors, counter rumors and conspiracy theories mixed with a little of chinese whispers is gonna make a nice tasty dish !!

;)

The new iPhone would carry the home button again in my opinion, just like the new iPad. Without it, your the new iPhone wouldn't look quite as elegant, and hardly Apple will make moves towards this direction.

with all of the gestures available I could live without a home button. Right now I use my iPad without the home button because pressing it in the new otterbox defender is a pain to do. So the power button is all I need and I just use gestures to navigate around. Took a few days to get used to it, now it just seems natural to do.

The iPhone doesn't have these gestures unless you jailbreak.

No you're not crazy, I think they will just name it iPhone like they started to do with the iPad. Also I think they'll keep the home button cause it has many uses & no other phone doesn't have some kind of home or back button.

I've used gestures on the iPhone. It is weird only at first. I use them almost exclusively on the iPad.

Keep in mind Apple could just change the home button instead of eliminating it.

Honestly I am looking forward to iOS 6 more than the next iPhone, but either way I am eager to see what they're working on.

Im sure home button will be there cuz how u gonna access your music from the lock screen?

As a quick thought, Apple can add in a double tap the sleep/wake button.

The iPhones screen is a lot smaller than the iPads and some of the gestures would be awkward to do on it.

There are plenty of gestures that could work just fine. Look how small the trackpad (mouse replacement) is. It supports handfuls of gestures. In fact, it was Apple's original way of bringing gestures to their OS. I don't think it's that bad.
