Had this problem surface on my 2008 MBP antiglare. Essentially when you open or close the lid, the screen becomes separated. When you hold the front and the back parts of the screen together when closing the lid, it shuts properly otherwise it closes misaligned and separated.

It looks like the glue is coming apart but I'm curious if it could be a hinge problem since it has taken a minor fall (on carpet) about a year and a half ago. One repair place says the whole screen needs to be replaced which is a $500 repair.

Opinions welcome, particularly from anyone who does repairs on antiglares.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

As long as the display is working fine, I don't think you need to shell out $500 for a new display. Try removing the whole top display assembly and see where the issue is. It's quite definitely a hinge issue as the hinges connect onto the top aluminium case.

I hope this helps.
