iOS Am I looking for a SubView?

Hey,

I'm making a view in an App and when a button is pressed i want the screen to darken and display a translucent view over it so i can give the user instructions. So maybe i can set alpha to something low so its kinda see through black, so that would darken the screen also. How would i go about doing that? Is that a subview?
