Am I missing something - Changing Time Zones

Hi there

I'm with O2 in the UK and I travel every week to the US, Asia etc....

When I go into Settings/General/Date & Time and select Time Zone, then select, say New York - shouldn't the time change to local time in New York?

It never seems to and I have to change the time manually.

Am I missing something or what is this feature for?!?
