iOS 26 has been a total mess UI wise.

It's all over the place, still in 26.1 -

for example:

1. The "liquid glass" switches in the clock/alarm app are STILL missing animation in 26.1

2. a simple minimisation of a folder to the dock is a glitchy mess...

@Paddle1 is the folder on the dock? that's where it happens.
There are a ton of such glitches in 26. Although, in general, it was pretty smooth compared to 26.1 when I installed it on my iPad Pro. 26.2 made things a little worse for me. The issue in your video is very similar to many other areas. I don’t have folders in my dock but on my Home Screens I have at least a dozen or more folders, and that’s one thing ios 26 has had a bad time dealing with. Following someone else here’s suggestion I went to the trouble of resetting my Home Screen layout, which left me with a dozen or more Home Screens but no folders. Visual glitches pretty much disappeared when swiping through all those Home Screens, or when launching apps and web link icons. But as soon as I reorganized everything to how I wanted it, with only 2 Home Screens but, with many folders, all the glitches returned. Force quitting apps can help temporarily as will a restart but only temporarily. The system just cannot deal with multiple folders and Liquid Glass. It just taxes the devices too much, and that’s on a 17 Pro Max and an M5 iPad Pro. My guess is is that Liquid Glass will look far different in ios 27

Yeah I get that issue too. For me, it’s not a showstopper. Yes there are places where the Liquid Glass effect doesn’t work, but also not a big issue for me. Consistency should be key of course, but doesn’t always happen. For me it’s more about what can I deal with that doesn’t interfere with my daily activities.

You see both of these issues?

I’m hearing reports people with newer phones don’t see the dock issue but I doubt it

The attention to detail here is shockingly poor.

Why do all the refraction stuff but get this basic stuff wrong.

Don't mistake me for an Apple apologist, but why do people update so early in the release-cycle of a new OS when year after year we see the same trends, with users reporting critical bugs and just general lack of refinement? I understood 15 years ago when new OS's often brought something genuinely new and exciting to the table and we'd trade-off the inevitable bugs and unrefinement against new functionalities that were a must-have...but now?

Stop being unpaid beta testers for a $4tn firm and sit on your hands until .3 or later. OS26 brings nothing to the table that changes your life.

@MajorFubar
You can't be serious... are you really forgetting all the users who bought devices that came with ...26 and just have no other choice than to live with the mess until hopefully all this gets ironed out?
or do you wan't to tell us that we should refrain from buying current devices until... maybe 26.4 is released?

@Frieg you have already correctly guessed the answer to that.
EDIT: Actually I'll word that better and expand: technically i'm not telling people to not buy new devices or not upgrade. Absolutely you do you. What i am saying is, recent history has proven that those who choose to be on the bleeding edge get blood-stained shirts. So if you can, leave it for a while. And yes, where you circumstances allow, I'd include delaying the purchase of new kit until it's likely the OS it comes with has been debugged. Though I do get that circumstaces differ. But if you can avoid being the unpaid beta tester for a $4Tn company, then do so.

I do think you’re right in this advice. I’m one of those who will probably not take it as I generally like to get the devices when released. What is frustrating is that many iOS releases negatively impact older devices and seem to be designed specifically for the new ones. But, especially with 26, some are an equal opportunity bugfest. With the demands that Liquid Glass places on all devices, I think some of these issues will not be fixed in the 26 cycle. I think that will come in 27, hopefully.

What critical bugs. Always expect some glitches but what critical bugs are you referring to whereby I can’t work on my phone?

That's a pretty fair challenge, and it's going to depend from person to person on what you call annoying or critical.
But there's threads similar to this every single year, about users rightfully complaining that something doesn't work properly until at least x.2.

So unless you feel you just have to be on the bleeding edge and you don't mind a blood-stained shirt, just hang fire.

It's barely two weeks since this thread about someone's mac being screwed by MacOS 26:

Ok. That’s fair. But the Mac is another device and I thought we were discussing iPhones.

And to be fairer, there are enough threads about windows updates bricking windows.
