Back when, with Windows, one could set individual properties to folder/directories. In short - I would like some folder to be viewed as icons and others as a list. Yet, it seems (perhaps my error or oversight) that I cannot do this. If I set up a list look, all folders now share that view. Any way around this? I have some folders that icons would be a far better fit and others, lists in others and yes some in column. Anyone?

By default, Finder uses the same view mode when browsing. So that if you switch to List mode, you will continue navigating in that mode. If you switch to another mode, then you will continue with that one.

However, you can override this for a particular folder, so it would always use your selected mode.

  • Navigate to the folder and select the view mode that you want.
  • Open the View Options window
    • Either from the menu bar View -> Show View Options
    • Or using keyboard shortcut cmd + J
  • At the top of this window, you can enable "Always open in list view" and "Browse in list view" (or whatever mode is currently selected). This will apply only to the currently open folder.

Much appreciated!
