Am I missing something with transferring purchases?

I want to keep some app data of applications on my computer before I attempt restoring a fresh iOS 10 beta 2. Currently I'm running iTunes 12.4 and iOS 10 beta 2.

My 6,500 or so songs sync fine, back and forth. However, applications can't be synced to iTunes? I don't want to lose some app data I currently have just because of a reinstall.

I believe you cannot sync applications from devices to a MAC - it is a one way sync for apps - Mac to Devices, but not iPhone to Mac ( for example)

You can activate the automatic download in itunes preferences < store < Automatic Downloads <apps

the data should be ok if you do a regular back up - recommend archiving the back up for each device once in a while especially before a major update.
