I've been trying for 2 days now to install office 08, I've downloaded the updates 3 times and uninstalled office several times!

My installer is 12.0.0 (Rosetta required and installed) - installs fine
I then update the updater - thats works.
Download and install 12.1.0 - works fine.
Download 12.2.0 but it wont install and corrupts the office programs and tells me to re-install office.

What else an I do apart from re-install snow leopard?

Every time this happens I completely remove office 08 including all pref files.

The installer for Office is flakey at best. You need to install all the previous updates right on top of each other - the most recent being last.

Worked for me.

Finally got it working, had to re-install SL (erase & install).

So this is what I did:
Select Rosetta during SL install if your office 08 installer is 12.0.0

Go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx
Download the 3 office updates.

Run the office installer.
Apply the updates straight after, in the following order:
12.1.0
12.2.0
12.2.1

That worked for me, maybe it was the Rosetta download after SL installation that messed things up.

I also had problems upgrading Office on SL. But it wasn't the same problem for me. Apparently there are tons of different problems with Office on 10.6.

The installation program (12.1.0) wouldn't install because my OS was "not compatible".
So what I did is I went to Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices and edited SystemVersion.plist.
I replaced "10.6" with "10.5". I downloaded the 3 updates from the Microsoft website and they all went fine.
Then I changed back the system version in the plist file...

I love Microsoft.
