I just got my iphone back after about a year of not using it. I used to have unlimited data with ATT but now that they dont offer unlimited data i have 2gb. When im connected to wifi, does the phone recognize that and not use my data or do i have to turn my service off? Thanks! (Using Iphone 4)

to be using carrier data you will see either 3G or E if its WiFi Bars your not using carrier data
When you're connected to wifi you are not using carrier AT&T Data.
You're using that routers data instead.
Only 3G and 2G connection counts against your plans 2GB plan.

and what are you email settings at? Do you have push turned on for email? How many accounts? That will help. It's usually the biggest issue with batteries dying fast.
Push will kill your battery. With my old 2G iPhone It was cutting my battery life in half. I would switch to fetch or turn it off all together. If you turn if off all together it'll only get emails when you open the mail application. It's really your choice but push I would try switching to a less frequent update and see how your battery life changes.
