I just felt compelled to share. I just recently discovered an app called "Midi Guitar" that allows guitar/bass to be converted to midi on the fly. Not only that, but it easily routes directly from the app to other apps like GarageBand. The tracking is amazing; and I'm not even using the ideal guitar for it either.

I bought an iRig Stomp, which is fantastic btw, and using that I'm playing organs, electric pianos, drums, and more right from my phone to my amp. I'm blown away at the quality.

I actually bought one of those YRG Midi Guitars (You Rock Guitar) back in 2011. After playing around with this app I'm thinking I'll just sell the YRG. The only downside of the app solution is that I can't bend notes, but with the YRG it required whammy bar usage anyway; not on the fret board.

One other complaint that I've contacted the developer about is the size of the interface icons on the iPhone version of the app. They're quite tiny, and it seems clear that it was developed for iPad and just scaled down. However, since you only need the app to start it, it's not a big deal.

Any other guitar/ bass players out there with experience with this app?
