I was watching hells kitchen and wanted to look up a chef's cook book, Hugh Garvey.

I typed it into my iPhone and the book was $17.99. Then I decided to grab my macbook air and see if he had any other books. Holy crap, the exact same book, same reviews, everything the same is only $9.19 on my macbook air.

WTF?

What do you mean different entry? I used the same search, both in amazon's search field, it was the first result that came up.

here is a screen shot instead of iphone pic.

Both of the entries say "sold and shipped by Amazon"

----------

I'm not going to buy books off amazon on my iphone anymore, I wonder how much less samsung users get charged, probably free.

Using the Amazon iPhone app I selected the same book and it comes up as $9.18.

I also visited Amazon through Safari on my iPhone and selected the same book and got $9.18 again.

I searched "hugh garvey cook book" just now and came up with $17.99, on my iPhone, then $9.18 on my mac.

For what it's worth it shows as $9.18 through safari on my ipad. It is probably a difference between accessing the store through the app versus a web browser. They may be seeing slightly different databases or something. I don't think there is any hard evidence that amazon is raising prices for apple users.

Oh, the mac fixed my misspelled "cook book" to "cookbook".

So amazon is just charging $9 extra dollars if you can't spell cookbook.

Look, an illiteracy tax.

I searched "hugh garvey cook book" just now and came up with $17.99, on my iPhone, then $9.18 on my mac.

When I added 'cook book' and repeated my searches with the Amazon app and the Safari version, it came up as the only item and was listed at $17.99.

Interesting.

I see that now, so they give me the option to buy either at $17.99 (which is picked) or I can select the crappy $9.18 version. Which are both the same, and both sold by amazon. Makes sense to me.

Also, the iPhone does not make it easy to find both versions. You only see $17.99, and have to click through the price to find the cheap one. I feel like I just went used care shopping. I almost paid double because I spelled "cookbook" wrong. Man.

Wow, that's weird.

When I first saw your post, I was going to suggest that you delete your browser's cookies, but I see that this is just a weird situation with no obvious explanation.

I recommend you call Amazon and report this issue. Heck, email them the pictures in your "illiteracy tax" post to prove it to them!!
