I haven't been able to access amazon.com for the last two days. Anyone know what's up with them? I haven't ruled out this being a problem with my machine, but it happened on two different ISPs. Just curious.

Hmmm...
I have tried different browsers (Firefox and IE). I'm having no luck. I'm going reset Safari anyway, but I doubt that will fix it.

It does appear I'm having computer troubles. Mods, can this be moved to a help section?

Reset safari.
Flushed all firewall rules.
Rebooted computer.
Checked for updates.

It still doesn't find amazon. It doesn't seem to be happening with any other site. I'm really confused.

Right now I'm on campus. I checked other computers here and none of them connected either. Yesterday, I was at home. We have Comcast, but we set up our router to use our school's DNS server because it was much faster and didn't go down as much as the comcast one. I wonder if this is a DNS issue. Anyone know the address of a DNS server I can use? I don't know any off hand.

Edit: you beat me to my idea.

Edit2: No, it doesn't appear to be a dns issue. I clicked on the ip and it properly says amazon.com in safari. It just doesn't connect. I can't ping the ip either.

I proxied into my parents' home and I was able to connect to amazon. I'm not sure what the issue is, but is it is safe to say that it isn't my computer and it isn't anything that I can fix?

It seems odd that it would occur both at home and on campus with the same DNS server if it weren't a DNS issue. Especially since I'm assuming there are different firewall rules at each side.

It's not surprising you can't ping it - I'm sure they've blocked that type of thing at Amazon. I can't ping it either, but can get to it.

If you ping www.amazon.com it gives you the same IP address I posted, right?

Edit: Based on your edit above, it does seem like a campus thing. Have you tried other computers on campus?

Yep. It converts it to the correct ip, then it just hangs.

I have tried other computers on campus.

I'm assuming other "buy" sites are okay, it's just Amazon? Maybe they just want you to buy stuff at the campus bookstore. :p

I'd send an e-mail to the campus IT help desk or whatever to let them now.

Other sites work (Buy, Overstock). I just like using Amazon for their user reviews. I find them pretty decent and entertaining. I work in a computer lab on campus so I'm going to write a case ticket and send it in. I might get a faster response than though email. Anyway, thanks guys.

It's all fixed. My work order ticket has not been marked "fixed", but it works. Weird.
You'll now get a message saying they can't duplicate the problem.

I don't know if they're all like that - I doubt it - but many are, at least in my experience.
