The current MacBook Airs are such amazing value for money. I still have my M2 and it is awesome; but if you’re buying a MacBook now, this is the one most people would be happy with.

These companies keep scaring us into buying now due to tariffs, yet they keep having sales. Some of the best Apple sales are going on right now. If you are a gamer I am sure you heard the news that 8bitdo will have a supply scare as only their US warehouses will supply the US and they have stopped shipping from Chinese warehouses... yet all their controllers are on sale and nothing is sold out since that was announced days ago. Just marketing playing on our anxieties.

We are in a bubble right now.

If anyone in the US expects to need an upgrade or replacement for any high-tech or high-dollar-value item within at least the next 4 years, NOW is the time to buy.

Unless the WH reverses course completely (they won't), the doodoo will hit the fan very, very soon and the country will be the front-runner for this century's Darwin Award.

I for one, can't wait for when it does, as few things are as satisfying as "we told you so".

Or maybe people just don't/won't/can't spend as much as the industry expected?
Maybe retailers are sitting on huge inventory that will soon age out they haven't paid for yet in warehouses they rented at inflated prices?

Not going to much into the political side here but even if the tariffs work in bringing manufacturing into the US that will take years, years in which US costumers will end up paying those tariffs.

A few days ago I watched a video of 2 guys going through US pricing for various GPUs and just for fun I decided to mirror that on amazon.de (not the best prices by far). Prices were almost all lower by 10-20% despite them including 19% VAT.

My guess is that someone in the supply chain pushed more stuff towards Europe betting on the margins being more reliable here. That bet didn't work out right now and everything is "on sale" (aka MSRP).

That ship has already sailed (50% empty).
The issue isn't the tariffs, it isn't even the height of the tariffs. It is that noone stuffing a container in China knows what will happen once it reaches the US and if their timing is bad they may end up paying the tariffs in full a week before they are suspended again. Or a ship that was supposed to make inside a deadline gets delayed by just a bit.

So yeah the #### is already hitting the fan, mostly in the US and China with everybody else running low on popcorn.

In Sweden, the 13” 16/256 model costs $1,249 before taxes. For a private buyer, that means paying around $1,560 at the Apple Store for the base version. Buying it from Amazon only saves about $13. One online retailer has a weekend offer for $1,416, but even that is still significantly more expensive compared to prices in the US.

My goto 3rd party retailer offers that for 1004€ on 0% financing including VAT off course. Thats 1135$ so not that bad.

Apple always had the tendency to be slow when it comes to adapting prices, so we will have to wait for the M5 cycle maybe even longer till they acknowledge the current reality of taxes and exchange rates.

Exactly right...except, even after the tariff gets changed...

1. There will be a MASSIVE backlog of containers to ship from China. So a container that normally costs $8000 to ship (and is $1500 right now), will spike to $20,000+...and it will still take months to clear the backlog.

Rule of thumb - for every day there's a delay (such as when there's a port strike, or a bridge collapsing in Baltimore), it takes a WEEK to recover. Doing the quick math, even if the tariff is renegotiated tomorrow, this will be felt well past Christmas.

2. There's no confidence that the tariff won't change yet again. There's a reason that government was designed to be inefficient and slow...quick changes are very disruptive.

It is impossible to make any medium to long term investments in this environment. Expect supply chain disruptions for many foreign items for many, many items...and lasting a very long time. Remember, if an item (like a car) has 1000 parts, you can't ship one with only 999.

However, getting back to the original topic, this won't affect Apple as much. Right or wrong, they got special treatment...and their margins allow them to use planes. This is impractical for most.

margins allow them to use planes.

Which is only really gonna help to react a bit faster on changes, not on eventually having to pay the taxes and pass them to the consumer.
So yeah with every product refresh coming in they will take a good long look at pricing as they never change them (unless a product is pegged down a notch by its successor).
Either hike them up to play it safe or disappoint shareholders....

The M4 MBA is too good a computer at too good a price to be on sale like this so soon. I think the recession is in full swing already and folks are tightening up their wallets.

Recessions are caused by people tightening up their wallets.

..and yes, many people are. Wife and I have decided to not unnecessarily upgrade any tech, appliances or cars as long as the tariffs are in place. Our expenses are down and our pay is up, but it's going into savings instead.

“Every M4 MacBook Air on Sale“ – except for the configurations Apple decides not to sell on Amazon, namely every model with 1TB+ SSD.
I'm confused. Every MBA with 1TB or greater is a special order with Apple. You can't just walk into a store and get a 1TB and you can't order for next day delivery. If the 1TB device is special order (with a 10 to 14 day wait), do you really expect Amazon to have those special order configurations readily available?

Normally Apple uses something called just-in-time logistics in which they only keep a small number of units in-stock. But they had advance warning of the tariff increase and shipped a bunch of products over from China before the deadline. Now they are having to pay to store these over here and are keen to get rid of some of them. If someone needs a laptop later this year, it would be better for both Apple and the customer if they purchased it now. Apple gets it out of its warehouse and the customer gets it before tariffs potential raise the price.

I imagine @Andreas from Zurich was referring to the disingenuous Title:

"Amazon Has Every M4 MacBook Air on Sale"

Which is not the, er, case.

If it read "Amazon Has Every M4 MacBook Air [that they sell] on Sale" we probably wouldn't be here ;)
